La vie en Rose

What would Raf Simmons do?

As an unabashed follower of haute couture, that was the question on my mind before Mr. Simmons’ first show as creative director at Dior. Will he able to fill the rather large pointy-toed-shoes left behind by Galliano (overrated according to me, and the drunken anti-Semitic remarks didn’t go down that well either...I see Karma at work there?), or would The House of Dior begin its slow decline into blah-ness, just like what happened to Gucci after Tom Ford left (Tom Ford – well, that’s a different blog entry altogether, and it won’t be about the clothes he makes ;) ).

Well, as we all know, Raf wowed us all with his stunning creations, but what really really took my breath away was the runway set! Rooms upon rooms, covered in flowers from floor to ceiling, almost like a cubist Alice in Wonderland (to be precise, a million blooms, from 22 different kinds of flowers).

As a purveyor of all things fantastic and beautiful, I did a little research, and found out these stunning floral walls were created by Brussels based florist Mark Colle, but of course, calling him just a florist is like calling Raf Simmons just a tailor (haven’t we all heard that before?)

So, here are some images from that magickal Dior show, along with a show he did for Jill Sanders (much more modern, and equally lovely). I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

La vie en Rose indeed.....
